Hioki Launches Switch Mainframe SW1001/SW1002 and Multiplexer Module SW9001/SW9002

Multiplexers Capable of Highly Reliable Switched Measurement of Multiple Batteries

June 16, 2018 - Nagano, Japan

HIOKI is pleased to announced the launch of the Switch Mainframe SW1001/SW1002 and Multiplexer Module SW9001/SW9002.

The multichannel switches are designed to facilitate measurement of multiple batteries by switching among them. Used in combination with other Hioki products such as the DC Voltmeter DM7276 and the Battery Impedance Meter BT4560, the new products can measure parameters such as open voltage and internal impedance (internal resistance) for multiple batteries. Since the Multiplexer Module SW9001/SW9002, which is inserted into the Switch Mainframe SW1001/SW1002, features circuitry that is designed specifically for impedance measurement, the equipment is able to deliver highly reliable multichannel measurement with low measured value error.

DEVELOPMENT BACKGROUND
The battery market is expected to continue to grow as electric vehicles and renewable energy enter into increasingly widespread use. At the same time, battery research and development is expected to accelerate as the industry moves from lithium-ion batteries to solid-state batteries and fuel cells.

Since battery modules consist of a large number of battery cells, properties must be evaluated across a large number of channels. Currently, most customers find themselves in the position of fabricating their own test rigs due to a lack of multiplexers designed for battery measurement. Such “homemade” multiplexers suffer from numerous issues, including high measured value error and tricky wiring, fueling demand for highly reliable multiplexer products from established manufacturers.

Hioki developed these four new products in an effort to satisfy demand from such customers.

SW1001/SW1002 FEATURES
1. Highly Reliable Multichannel Measurement
The SW1001/SW1002 is a multiplexer (multichannel switch) designed to measure multiple batteries by switching among them. Used in combination with one or more battery measuring instruments, it can perform multichannel measurement.

The SW1001 has slots for 3 multiplexer modules, while the SW1002 has slots for 12 modules, enabling customers to choose the number of modules based on the number of channels they plan to measure. The SW1002 can measure battery voltage for up to 264 channels and internal impedance for up to 132 channels.

In addition, the multiplexer modules have circuitry that is designed specifically for impedance measurement, allowing the products to deliver highly reliable multichannel measurement with low measured value error.

2. Ability to Connect Up to 2 Battery Measuring Instruments with Differing Measurement Functionality
The multiplexers can be used to create a single system for measuring multiple parameters like open voltage, internal impedance, and enclosure potential by switching sequentially between two measuring instruments. Since accuracy is guaranteed when SW1001/SW1002 is combined with Hioki battery measuring instruments, the new products can be used with confidence and peace of mind.

3. Built-In Fuse to Protect Each Channel from a Short-Circuit
Each channel incorporates a fuse to protect against the chance of an internal short-circuit in the multiplexer during battery measurement. This feature prevents short-circuits involving large numbers of battery cells.
