Hioki’s CT6704 and CT6705 Current Probes Adopt Recycled Plastic, Advancing Sustainable Product Development

Hioki launched its new Current Probe CT6704・CT6705 on June 18, 2026, incorporating recycled plastic into the product design. This marks the company’s first case in which the use of recycled plastic was planned from the development stage of a new product.

Background

In 2022, Hioki formulated the Hioki Sustainability Declaration, setting targets to achieve carbon neutrality for Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2025, the company’s 90th anniversary, and for Scope 3 emissions by 2035, the company’s 100th anniversary.
In pursuit of Scope 3 carbon neutrality by 2035, Hioki established a circular economy target in April 2025: to make 50% of products that use plastic into products using recycled plastic by January 1, 2030.

Details of Recycled Plastic Adoption

・Application Areas
In the Current Probe CT6704・CT6705, recycled plastic has been adopted for the outer casing of the relay circuit box, which converts measured current into electrical signals.

・Resin and Recycled Material Used
The resin used is glass fiber-reinforced polycarbonate (PC+GF). The recycled material consists of offcuts, such as runners and spools, generated during the manufacturing process of molded parts. These offcuts, which were previously discarded, are now crushed and pelletized, then blended with virgin resin for reuse.
The recycled material content is capped at 10%. This figure was determined through extensive evaluations to ensure that it does not compromise the product’s durability or quality.

・Development Efforts
In 2025, Hioki began using recycled plastic, specifically PC/ABS resin, in its long-selling AC Clamp Meter 3280 Series. The Current Probe CT6704・CT6705 represents the company’s first case in which the use of recycled plastic was planned from the development stage of a new product.
By conducting material baseline evaluations and product implementation testing in parallel with the development schedule, Hioki was able to incorporate recycled plastic from the time of product release.

Future Outlook

Going forward, Hioki plans to expand the use of this resin to other products that use the same material. The company also aims to broaden its application to different colors and grades of the same material, with the goal of continually increasing the proportion of products that incorporate recycled plastic.
In addition to utilizing recycled plastics, Hioki is also exploring the introduction of biomass plastics, contributing to reduced environmental impact through a multifaceted approach.
