Hioki Achieves Third-Party Verified Investment-Based Carbon Neutrality for Scope 1 and Scope 2 Emissions
Comprehensive verification of Scope 1, Scope 2, and all applicable Scope 3 emissions reinforces Hioki's leadership in sustainable manufacturing and the global energy transition
HIOKI E.E. Corporation (TSE: 6866) today announced the achievement of independently verified carbon neutrality for Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across its consolidated operations, fulfilling a key commitment outlined in the company's Sustainability Declaration and marking an important milestone in its journey toward a more sustainable future.
The achievement was independently verified by SGS Japan Inc. in accordance with ISO 14064-3:2019, confirming the reliability of Hioki's fiscal year 2025 greenhouse gas emissions calculations and the company's carbon neutrality status for Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions under the market-based approach.
In addition, Hioki expanded the scope of third-party verification to include all applicable Scope 3 emissions categories across its value chain. This comprehensive verification further strengthens the transparency, completeness, and credibility of the company's climate-related disclosures and demonstrates its commitment to internationally recognized ESG standards.
As industries worldwide accelerate electrification, renewable energy adoption, and decarbonization initiatives, Hioki believes that accurate measurement, verification, and accountability are essential to achieving meaningful environmental progress. As a global provider of electrical measuring instruments and testing solutions that support the energy transition, Hioki is committed not only to enabling sustainability for its customers but also to advancing sustainability within its own operations.
Key Highlights
- Achieved third-party verified carbon neutrality for Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions across consolidated operations.
- Expanded verification coverage to include both energy-related and non-energy-related Scope 1 emissions.
- Completed independent verification of all Scope 3 categories applicable to Hioki's business activities.
- Strengthened ESG transparency through comprehensive emissions assurance in accordance with international standards.
- Continued investments in renewable energy, electrification, and carbon reduction initiatives across operations.
Verified Greenhouse Gas Emissions (FY2025 Consolidated Group)
| Scope | Emissions (t-CO₂) |
|---|---|
| Scope 1 (Energy-related) | 746 |
| Scope 1 (Non-energy-related) | 38 |
| Scope 2 (Market-based*1) | 295 |
| Scope 2 (Location-based*2) | 2,657 |
Key Scope 3 emissions categories verified include purchased goods and services, capital goods, transportation and distribution, employee commuting, business travel, product use, and end-of-life treatment.
Carbon Neutrality Achievement
To achieve investment-based carbon neutrality, Hioki invested in non-fossil certificates, carbon-neutral certificates, and retirement certificates in quantities equivalent to or exceeding its Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions.
- Non-fossil certificates: 317 t-CO₂, purchased as an investment corresponding to Scope 2 market-based emissions for sites using electricity other than renewable electricity.
- Carbon-neutral certificates and retirement certificates: 1,082 t-CO₂, purchased as an investment corresponding to Scope 1 energy-related and non-energy-related emissions.
The third-party verification opinion confirmed that our company has made investments that fully offset, and even exceed, our Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions, resulting in investment-based carbon neutrality for these scopes.
- Note:Under the view of the third-party verification body, for tenant-based sales offices and similar locations in buildings operated entirely with fossil fuel-derived energy, GHG emissions cannot be reported as 0 t-CO₂ even if non-fossil certificates are purchased.
Advancing Renewable Energy and Decarbonization
Hioki has steadily implemented measures to reduce emissions across its operations, including:
Scope 1 Initiatives
| 2022 | Electrification of company vehicles leading to a reduction in fossil fuel consumption. |
|---|---|
| 2023 | Adoption of carbon neutral gas solutions through the purchase of carbon neutral gas and investments in voluntary credits*3. |
| 2023 | Procurement and retirement of Nagano prefecture forest derived J Credits through annual investments equivalent to 100t-CO₂. |
| 2025 | Initiation of investments in Indonesia origin VCS certified credits starting from the FY2024 allocation. |
Scope 2 Initiatives
Market-based
| 2021 | Progressive procurement of renewable electricity. |
|---|---|
| 2022 | Conversion of all electricity used at the headquarters and the Sakaki Factory to renewable energy. |
| 2024 | Initiation of renewable electricity use at Ueda Factory II. |
| 2025 | Procurement of non fossil certificates corresponding to the electricity consumption of group subsidiaries starting from the FY2024 allocation. |
In addition, Hioki completed construction of a 2 MW solar carport at the south parking area of its headquarters site in 2025. The facility has begun supplying electricity equivalent to approximately 40% of the headquarters' electricity demand, helping reduce location-based emissions and supporting continued investment in energy saving and energy generation initiatives.

- *1:Market-based: A calculation method that uses the emission factors of electricity plans contracted by a company and renewable energy certificates purchased by the company. When a renewable electricity plan is contracted, emissions may be calculated as 0 t-CO₂ for accounting purposes.
- *2:Location-based: A calculation method that uses the average electricity emission factor for the company's location. It covers total electricity use, deducting electricity generated and consumed on-site, and indicates the total amount of electricity purchased from electric utilities.
- *3:Voluntary Credit: Voluntary credits are carbon credits that companies and individuals purchase on a voluntary basis. Our company has adopted carbon neutral gas certified under the VCS and CCB programs.
