Achieving carbon neutrality for Scope 1 and Scope 2 (market-based) through equivalent CO₂ reduction investments

Hioki E.E. Corporation , as declared in the Hioki Sustainability Declaration, committed to achieving carbon neutrality for Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2025, marking the company’s 90th anniversary. We are pleased to announce that, based on the calculation of CO₂ emissions for fiscal year 2024, we have achieved investment-based carbon neutrality.
In addition, when applying the same calculation logic to fiscal year 2025, we expect to maintain carbon neutrality. Further details will be provided again in June 2026, when the third-party verification report is scheduled to be submitted.

1. Third-Party Verification Opinion Report for Fiscal Year 2024

In the third-party verification opinion report, it has been confirmed that the acquisition and investment in non-fossil certificates, carbon neutral certification certificates, and invalidation notices equivalent to or exceeding Scope 1 and Scope 2 (market based) emissions, evidencing investments in CO₂ reductions that meet or surpass our reported emissions for FY2024.

2. Reduction Measures by Scope

-1. Scope 1 (Gasoline, Diesel, Kerosene, Gas)

- Since 2022: Promoting electrification of company vehicles and reducing gasoline/diesel use.
- Since 2023: Purchasing carbon-neutral gas and investing in voluntary credits*1 (e.g., VCS/CCB-certified offsets for gas neutrality).
- Since 2023: Investing 100 t-CO₂/year in Nagano Prefecture forest- derived J-Credits and performing cancellation (retirement) processing.
- From 2025: Commenced investments in VCS-certified credits in Indonesia.

-2. Scope 2 (Electricity)

(1) Market-based*2

- Since 2021: Gradual purchase of renewable electricity.
- Since 2022: All electricity at the Headquarters and Sakaki Factory switched to renewable energy.
- Since 2025: Purchasing non fossil certificates equivalent to the electricity consumption of group subsidiaries.

Through the above Scope 1 and Scope 2 measures, we have achieved investment-based carbon neutrality.

*According to the third party verifier, for tenant office buildings, even if you invest in non-fossil certificates, you cannot display the emissions as 0 t-CO₂.

(2) Location-based*3

- The 2MW solar carport in the south parking lot of the headquarters, please remove under construction since 2023, was completed in 2025 and now supplies about 40% of Headquarters’ electricity use.

*Scope 2 includes both market-based and location-based methods. We have achieved carbon neutrality using the market-based method, and will continue to invest in energy conservation and on-site generation per the location-based method, which represents the total electricity consumption.

Note

*Note 1: Voluntary Credit
Refers to carbon credits voluntarily purchased by companies and individuals.
Our company has introduced carbon-neutral gas certified by VCS and CCB.

Introduce VCS-certified and CCB-certified carbon neutral gas toward a sustainable society

*Note 2: Market-based
A calculation method that uses the emission factors of the electricity menu contracted by the company and the purchased renewable energy certificates. If a renewable energy menu is contracted, it can be displayed as 0 t-CO₂ in the calculation.

*Note 3: Location-based
A method of calculation using the average power emission factor of the company location.
The calculation is based on the total amount of electricity used, with the portion generated by the company itself deducted as emission reductions.
This indicates the total amount of electricity purchased from the power company.
