Hioki Starts Using Recycled Plastic New initiative is geared to realize a circular economy

Hioki has begun using recycled materials in plastic molded components for its products as part of a larger initiative to realize a circular economy, with the goal of achieving carbon neutrality for Scope 3 emissions by 2035.

Background

Positioning 2025 as the first year of the circular economy, Hioki set targets related to the circular economy this April. Based on these targets, the Company has been conducting repeated trials to pelletize plastic scrap generated in the process of molding components and blending it with virgin materials. Having completed quality evaluation and testing, Hioki is now officially releasing products that incorporate this recycled material.

Details

Hioki has begun manufacturing a flagship product line, its Clamp Meter 3280 Series, using plastic molded components containing up to 20% recycled material. This initiative is expected to reduce material use and waste by approximately 850 kg annually while cutting CO2 emissions by about 4.3 tons per year. Going forward, the Company’s R&D Division will further accelerate environmentally conscious design to expand this initiative to other products.

Materials used in this implementation:  PC/ABS
CO2 reduction effect calculation: Based on IDEAv3.4 coefficients for industrial plastic products and waste plastics
