Hioki Launches High Voltage Insulation Tester IR3455

Instrument Measures Up to 10 TΩ, Twice the Legacy Model

November 24, 2016 - Nagano, Japan

Hioki is pleased to announce the launch of the High Voltage Insulation Tester IR3455.

The meter can measure resistance values of up to 10 TΩ*, twice the legacy model, in order to meet growing market demand for high-insulation-resistance measurement. In addition to an expanded operating temperature range, the IR3455 uses a white backlight for improved visibility.

*1 TΩ = 1012 Ω

ROLE OF INSULATION
TESTERS
A material is said to be an insulator when its electrical resistance is so high that no current flows. Insulation resistance serves as an indicator of that state in which no current flows, with higher values indicating better insulation and higher safety.

Inadequate insulation in electrical devices and equipment can result in an electrical short, leading to a serious accident such as fire or electric shock. To prevent such hazards, insulation resistance is tested using insulation testers, which play an essential role in ensuring the safety of electrical equipment.

IR3455 FEATURES
1. Ability to measure up to 10 TΩ, twice the performance of the legacy model 3455
Whereas its predecessor offered a maximum resistance measured value of 5 TΩ, the newly launched IR3455 can measure insulation values of up to 10 TΩ, two times greater. This capability allows the instrument to meet growing demand for high-insulation-resistance measurement in the market.

2. Expanded operating temperature range of -10°C to 50°C
Compared to the legacy 3455’s operating temperature range was 0°C to 40°C, the IR3455 can be utilized in temperature ranging from -10°C to 50°C. The broader range of operating temperatures enables the user to apply the instrument in harsher environments and more extreme climates.

3. White backlight for improved visibility
The IR3455 features a new, more visible backlight that makes it easy to use in dim locations.

4. Broad range of measurement voltages
The IR3455 can generate test voltages ranging from 250 V to 5000 V. In addition, the instrument supports fine-grained configuration of the test voltage in 25 V steps.

5. Data memory function and PC application for increased work efficiency
The IR3455 includes a data memory function that can store 100 data points of manually recorded data and 10 data points* of logging data. In addition, the instrument comes with a PC application whose functionality makes it easy to create reports. Both of these capabilities increase work efficiency.

*Each data point consists of 360 measurements.

6. CAT IV (600 V) safety standard compliant
The IR3455 is designed to comply with the CAT IV (600 V) safety standard in order to reduce the risk of electric shock and other hazards in the event a high voltage is input to the instrument.

PRINCIPAL APPLICATIONS
* Maintenance inspections of electrical equipment
* Building maintenance and maintenance inspections of plant equipment
* Maintenance inspections of high-voltage equipment, motors, and other devices
