What is "layer short"?

The windings of the coil (including the motor) must be insulated by a coating (enamel). But for some reason, the insulation resistance decreases and a short circuit may occur. This is called a layer short.

Principal causes of layer shorts
- Deterioration of the insulation coating due to heat (overload, motor locking, etc.)
- Damage to the insulation coating during the manufacturing process of the motor
- Insulation degradation due to vibration
- Dust contamination, age-related deterioration, etc.
