PQ3198 Certified as Class A IEC 61000-4-30 Edition 3

The PQ3198 is a power quality analyzer for monitoring and recording power supply anomalies, allowing their causes to be quickly investigated, and also for assessing power supply problems such as voltage drops, flicker, harmonics, and other electrical issues.

The IEC61000-4-30 standards

The IEC61000-4-30 defines how to measure and analyze power quality in AC power supply systems. It classifies the measurement methods and capabilities of measuring instruments into 2 classes of A and S. The most reliable power quality measurement is Class A. The requirements for Class A are not only stipulated in terms of functions and accuracy, but also include detailed measurement algorithms and time clock accuracy.

Classification of Power Quality Measuring Instruments

Class A: Used when precise measurements are necessary to resolve disputes in courts of law and to verifying compliance with standards

Class S: Accuracy level is lower compared to the class A. These instruments are used for qualitative surveys, trouble-shooting and other applications where high accuracy is not required.

Edition 3

Edition 2 of this standard was discontinued in 2015 and replaced by Edition 3. Most leading power quality instruments only cover Edition 2. Here at HIOKI, our mission is to contribute to the creation of a sustainable society. That is why we are proud to provide this measurement that will further the power quality in factories and utility companies across the globe. The PQ3198 can measure the following required and optional items stated in Edition 3.

Power Quality parameters:

Required by Edition 3

Optional items supported by the PQ3198

Power frequency

Update your PQ3198 to comply with the Edition 3 standards.

We have updated our PQ3198 firmware to comply with the IEC 61000-4-30 Edition 3.
You can download the firmware here
Here are the few updates we made on the firmware:

 1. Mains signaling measurement
 2. Current measurement method for unbalance and detailed trends
 3. Lock with password verification

Certification

To prove that your equipment complies with the standard, special test were made by third party entities. The test methods are defined by IEC 62586 for verifying compliance with IEC 61000-4-30. Measuring methods for instruments that comply with Class A of IEC 61000-4-30 are defined as PQI-A in the IEC 62586-2 standard. Equipment that has been certified to comply with the standards will receive a certificate of conformity (CoC). Download the CoC of the PQ3198 here

Finally, when choosing a power quality instrument to conduct energy auditing or power quality analysis, it is important to choose equipment that has been evaluated according to the proper standards. Some customers might need it just because it is regulated in their region while some might need it to show that their measurement results are of high quality and integrity. Either way, we at HIOKI have got you covered.
