Hioki is pleased to announce that it will halt use of polypropylene bags in the packaging of some products starting in October.

In February 2022, Hioki formulated a Basic Policy on Sustainability and the Hioki Sustainability Declaration, which outlines CO2 emissions targets, reflecting its commitment to help realize a sustainable society. The Hioki Sustainability Declaration adopts the goals of realizing Scope 1 and 2 carbon neutrality by 2025 (the 90th anniversary of its founding), and Scope 3 carbon neutrality by 2035 (the 100th anniversary of its founding). As part of its effort to achieve Scope 3 carbon neutrality, the company has decided to discontinue use of polypropylene bags in some product packaging to aid in reductions in Category 1 (upstream: purchased parts) and Category 12 (downstream: disposal) CO2 emissions. Hioki has already verified that the elimination of polypropylene bags from packaging will not impact product quality.

The initiative is expected to reduce polypropylene bag use by 282 kilograms per year and CO2 emissions by 0.83 tons per year.

*CO2 emissions have been calculated using the Inventory Database for Environmental Analysis’s Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) and Version 3.3 of the Ministry of the Environment’s database.
