Hioki Launches Non-Contact CAN Sensor SP7001-95

The IEC61000-4-30 standards

Hioki is pleased to announce the launch of the Non-Contact CAN Sensor SP7001-95, a one-touch device that can be easily attached to, and detached from, CAN cables with one hand.
This revolutionary, non-contact sensor can detect signals on CAN and CAN FD networks in vehicles from outside cable insulation. The ability to detect signals simply by affixing the sensor to a cable significantly reduces the number of man-hours required to prepare for CAN signal capture by eliminating the cable modification.
Hioki’s first non-contact CAN sensor, which was launched in 2019, adopted a screw-based design with a grip that the user had to rotate to secure the device in place after clamping it around the cable. Incorporation of a variety of parts into vehicle designs has led to more complex spaces, making it challenging to attach and detach sensors in some scenarios.
Hioki developed the SP7001-95 with a one-touch design that allows it to be easily attached and detached with one hand while retaining the performance of the screw-type model.

Easy measurement in intricate locations

KEY FEATURES

1. One-touch design that makes it easy to attach and detach the sensor to CAN cables while retaining the previous model’s performance

Users press an open/close lever to open the tip of the sensor and then affix it to the cable they wish to measure. The sensor is automatically clamped in place when the user lets go, making it easy to attach single-handedly, even in intricate or hard-to-reach locations. This design also serves to make tasks in which sensors must be repeatedly attached and detached less stressful.
Like the screw-type model, the SP7001-95 satisfies the requirements of JIS D 1601 (vibration testing methods for automobile parts), but it also offers a design that’s easier to attach to wires. As a result, the device can be used to capture CAN signals during on-road testing in a stable and reliable manner.

One-touch open/close operation

2. Ability to draw power from USB

Non-contact CAN sensors require a power supply to operate. Whereas the previous model used either a 10 to 30 V DC power supply or an optional AC adapter, the SP7001-95 can operate on USB bus power. Since the device can be easily powered by the computer or Memory HiCorder being utilized to analyze data, it can be used anywhere.

3.Detect CAN/CAN FD signals from outside insulation

The Non-Contact CAN Sensor SP7001-95 can detect CAN signals from outside signal wires’ insulation, eliminating the need to prepare for testing by stripping wires or fabricating a sub-harness and reducing the number of man-hours needed to carry out development and evaluation work.
Because it detects signals in a contactless manner, the SP7001-95 do not affect the electrical characteristics of the wires under test. Consequently, users no longer need to concern themselves with the possibility of ECU malfunctions being triggered by changes those characteristics, which is an issue with conventional methods.

Principal Applications/ Customers

Development, design, and evaluation of automobiles
Development of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), self-driving, and other software

<Refrence: CAN>
Automobiles incorporate numerous components known as electronic control units (ECUs). These computers electronically control an array of vehicle systems, including the engine, motors, transmission, and airbags. The number of ECUs in vehicles continues to rise as those systems require increasingly sophisticated control.  For the ECUs to communicate with one another, a Controller Area Network (CAN) is used.  CAN signals carry important information such as sensor and control data, and it is becoming more and more common for engineers to utilize that data in vehicle development and evaluation.
