AC/DC Current Probe Wins FY2023 Good Design Award
Hioki is pleased to announce that its AC/DC Current Probe CT6830/ CT6831, AC/DC Current Sensor CT7812/ CT7822 have received a FY2023 Good Design Award from the Japan Institute of Design Promotion.
The Good Design Awards have served as a vehicle for comprehensive design evaluation and recommendation for more than 50 years. The accolade brings to 79 the total number of Good Design Awards (including two Long Life Design Awards) that Hioki has received since 1985.
Coming at a time when the increasing performance of automotive systems is leading to higher-density wiring, this most recent award recognizes the design optimization for accurately measuring current consumption of electronic devices and the continued branding with the previous models.
Overview and features of award-wining products
Hioki’s compact current probes can measure minuscule AC and DC currents with a high degree of precision. Reflecting designers’ pursuit of driver assistance features, safety, and comfort, automobiles incorporate large numbers of electronic devices, leading to adoption of higher-density wiring and minuscule current levels. Thanks to their compact tip, locking mechanism, and broad operating temperature range, these current probes are ideal for measuring dense wiring that carries minuscule currents.
・The probes feature a compact design with a sliding cable clamp. Capable of measuring dense wiring, they can also be used in confined spaces.
・Hioki has developed sensing technologies that can measure DC currents on the order of several milliamperes in a stable manner, allowing these probes to measure even minuscule currents with a high degree of accuracy.
・A locking mechanism keeps the cable under measurement from being dislodged by vibrations. The clamp can be locked and unlocked easily and naturally.
Comments from judges
These unprecedented compact current probes are designed for use in operating vehicles (and the high-temperature environment they represent) so that they can detect weak current when being used with the high-density wiring that has become commonplace as automotive systems’ performance increases. The clamp part of the probes has been made significantly more compact so that the user can select just one cable from a dense bundle, and it incorporates an exceptional sliding mechanism that allows the clamp to be reliably opened and closed with the thumb, even when wearing gloves. The products also succeed in terms of their branding, which conveys the peace of mind of an old and well-established manufacturer, by using the same color language as the current series.
