Procedures on how to update the firmware (8860vup.pdf)

Version upgrade should be conducted by a qualified technician familiar with the functions and operations of model 8860 or 8861.
If you are uncertain as to how to proceed, please contact your
local Hioki distributor for assistance.

During the version upgrade process, don’t manually turn off the power to the 8860/8861 or don’t remove the PC card from the PC card slot.
Doing so will result in failure to upgrade the 8860/8861, and the instrument must be returned to the Hioki factory for repair.

Before you proceed

The version numbers can be checked by viewing the bottom left portion of the startup window when the 8860/8861 is turned on.

2. When attempting to load corrupted waveform files (e.g., files that were in the middle of being saved when there was a sudden power interruption), the HiCORDER would freeze.
3. In very rare instances, when measuring in roll mode, the HiCORDER would hang. (v2.02 only)
4. When trigger priority is set to ON, the pre-trigger period ends during measurement, but a trigger is subsequently activated, garbage waveforms at the head of the waveform were found.
5. When using FTP, the USB memory stick or the floppy disk drive connected to the USB interface of the 5th connected 8860/8861 could not be recognized.
6. When the SYSTEM screen is displayed while attempting to load a settings file, the SYSTEM screen failed to update.
7. Minor English descriptions were corrected for grammar and spelling.
8. The text string for the filter settings within the waveform file (when using the PC application only) was incorrect (applies only to the 8939 Strain Unit).
9. Upon changing the range after canceling the offset, although the offset is cancelled by tracking the voltage range as much as possible, it was found that the offset was displayed without any tracking.

V2.02 (May 2008)
Improvements:
1. Unnecessary GUIs in the auto-balance results dialog window were removed.
2. The priority level of save threads was lowered so that when screens were switched during file save, the redrawing of the screens is smoother.
Resolved bugs:
1. Real time save stopped before the scheduled time. (v1.10 to v2.01)
2. In the MEM function and using dual-axis mode, when attempting to save a data file for a channel that has been set to record only with one time axis, the search function for triggers in the file failed to run. (v1.10 to v2.01 only)
3. In the MEM function and using dual-axis mode, when using the filter to conduct trigger or peak search with respect to the second axis, the search could not be properly conducted. (v1.10 to v2.01 only)
4. For data that has been memory segmented, even when searching for the peak using the search range specification of ”All Blocks between A and B”, search is conducted not between A and B but over the entire data. (v2.00 to v2.01 only)
5. After setting the search range as ”All Blocks between A and B” (valid only when memory segmentation is used), when loading a waveform file that has not been memory segmented, although the setting item for the search range appears as ”All”, the internal variable remained as ”All Blocks between A and B”, rendering an unintended search area. (v2.00 to v2.01 only)
6. Immediately after measuring, the channel selection for the gauge displayed problems, and the gauge channel could not be properly selected. (v2.00 to v2.01 only)
7. During measurement with memory segmentation turned ON, the waveform of the reference block could not be displayed. (v1.07 to v2.01 only)

10.When loading a real-time waveform at a location other than the head and then moving the event marker location, the marker was found to be moved to an incorrect location. (Similarly, moving the position of the AB cursor of the event marker and the event marker position of the AB cursor did not operate correctly.) (v2.00 to v2.01 only)
11.When loading a real-time waveform at a location other than the head and then switching to the MEM function, the time value of the event marker was found to be wrong. (v2.00 to v2.01 only)
12.When loading a real-time waveform at a location other than the head and then saving an event list the voltage value for each event was found to be incorrect. (v2.00 to v2.01 only)
13.When loading a real-time waveform at a location other than the head and then saving waveform file, incorrect event positions are saved. (v2.00 to v2.01 only)
14.When loading partially saved waveform files, the event markers were found to be different from when they were saved. (v2.00 to v2.01 only)
15.In the REC&MEM function, when loading a waveform file captured with a MEMORY HiCORDER that has a smaller storage memory, the 8860s was found to hang. (v2.00 to v2.01 only)
16.Under the REC&MEM function and specifying to partial save only a REC waveform, when the section to save is specified as complete save, the MEM waveform is saved, and when the section between A and B is specified, all waveforms (MEM and REC) were saved. (v2.00 to v2.01 only)
17.When attempting to load a segmented save waveform only file in the REC&MEM function, the device was found to freeze. (v2.00 to v2.01 only)
18.When attempting to save only waveform calculation data, the unit incorrectly determined that waveform data was not available and therefore save could not be performed. (v1.06 to v2.01 only)
19.When printing at the x1/10 zoom rate for the voltage axis using the high resolution unit, the values of the gauge were incorrect.
20.When loading FFT files that were saved under particular conditions, the device was found to freeze.
21.When bringing up the AB cursor (horizontal or trace) while an analog waveform was not available (i.e., during logic measurement or waveform calculation only), even when the settings are configured to logic or waveform calculation, the AB cursor value was not displayed.
22.When measuring with the memory segmentation function turned ON, the F7, F8 and GUI displays of the execute buttons for the search dialog (execute search, search next, move A cursor, move B cursor, mark, switch, close) were not in line. (v2.00 to 2.01 only)
23.When moving the AB cursor using the search dialog, because the AB cursor move dialog was not refreshed, the AB cursor move dialog button could not be pressed. Furthermore, the B cursor button could not be displayed.
24.Detailed repairs were made to the waveform file header section (specifically, the LWBBWDAT chuck size of the waveform file saved during waveform calculation) (v1.06 to v2.01 only)
25.In the channel information screen of the waveform screen, part of the range character string of the F/V and Charge Units were missing.

V2.01 (September 2007)
Improvements:
1. When auto-save is turned ON, and the PC command ”:ABORT” is issued, when data is being stored, although storage stops, the auto-save did not execute, making it difficult to use.
2. When the title comment settings is configured to ”Comment” or ”Settings & Comment”, in the report print the title comment is printed.
3. After measuring a waveform using REC&MEM and then switching to the MEM function to conduct waveform calculations, the longest recording length became 1249 DIV, 1 DIV less than expected. This has been improved to the expected 1250 DIV.
Resolved bugs:
1. When changing the position of the AB cursor using a PC command to one that is outside the range of the screen, the screen was found to be clipped.
2. When sending a large number of PC commands using LAN, the inability to process was sometimes found, leading to a command error.
3. When using the 8961 High Voltage Unit, the character string for measurement mode within the information character string for the PC application was incorrect.
4. During measurement using the FFT function, the display would not change even when manually switching between the local and global maximum value in the Peak Value Setting Display.
