The polarity (+/-) was reversed when I made a measurement using the resistance range. Is the instrument broken?

QI have a question about an analog tester. The polarity (+/-) is reversed when performing measurements with the resistance range. Why is this? Wouldn’t this invite mistakes, for example when checking diode polarity?

A

When using an analog tester, after switching from the voltmeter to the resistance meter, the voltmeter’s positive lead is the resistance meter’s negative lead, and the voltmeter’s negative lead is the resistance meter’s positive lead. Please be sure that you understand this fact before using the instrument.
