Maintaining EVs' Value: Offering an Integrated Set of Electrical Testing Tools for Maintenance

Hioki, a pioneer in the field of electric vehicle (EV) electrical measurement with a history of innovation, is pleased to announce the launch of the "EV Maintenance Test Tool", focused on the electric vehicle maintenance market.
This product constitutes a combination of multiple tools for ensuring safety in EV maintenance. These tools are necessary for electrical safety inspections such as checking insulation resistance, equipotential bonding, voltage, and temperature. A distinctive feature is the inclusion of a guide demonstrating testing procedures. This user-friendly solution, addressing the emerging needs of the maintenance market, empowers automotive engineers proactively working on cutting-edge electrical measurements to perform EV maintenance operations with reduced risk of electric shock and malfunctions.

As a mobility solution aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions, the EV market has seen significant expansion in recent years. The International Energy Agency (IEA) predicted that by the end of 2023, global sales of EVs would surpass 14 million units.(*1) This prediction turned out to be spot on.(*2)
Furthermore, in the lifecycle of these EVs, post-sale maintenance is crucial. Reducing scrapped vehicles by extending the lifespan of EVs, improving long-term power consumption efficiency, and adding high value in the used car market would all contribute to the realization of a sustainable society. HIOKI has already introduced to the market the measuring instruments suitable for EV maintenance, such as digital multimeters and milliohm meters. The launch of this EV Maintenance Test Tool essentially links these existing instruments to new products, providing operational support to automotive engineers performing EV maintenance who have limited exposure to electrical measurement.

In addition to various functions of each measuring instrument that assist maintenance engineers, the EV Maintenance Test Tool comes with a guide that outlines the electrical inspection procedures for EVs. This guide includes specific measurement procedures, such as ON/OFF operations as well as pre- and post-operation steps relating to high-voltage batteries. The guide aims to reduce the risks specific to EV maintenance such as electric shock and malfunctions. Assisting maintenance workers who are unfamiliar with high-voltage EV systems will help to ensure their safety and minimize the likelihood of EV failures.
Furthermore, some products are equipped with Bluetooth® functionality, allowing measurement results to be recorded as digital data. Digitalization simplifies the tracking and reporting of inspection records, which contributes to long-term maintenance record-keeping. This, in turn, support the maintenance and management of EV vehicles and enhances their credibility in the used car market.

As in the case of this newly released EV Maintenance Test Tool, Hioki will continue to contribute to the safety of engineers on-site as well as to a more sustainable and prosperous society.
