Good Design Award Jury Comments

  • Original Judge’s Comments from Good Design Award Website

To accommodate current measurement inside vehicle engine compartments―areas with increasing component density and constant vibration and temperature fluctuations―the sensor tip has been redesigned to reduce height and thickness to one-third and volume to one-half of previous models. In addition, the clamp mechanism can be operated with fingertips even in tight spaces. This excellent design considers all aspects: the measuring instrument, the measurement target, and the user. It precisely meets the growing need for current measurement in environmentally advanced vehicles, an essential component of a sustainable society. Comments from the Development Team

Designer – Tanaka, Business Promotion Dept., R&D Division
“We designed the probes with usability as the top priority. The sensor can be easily attached regardless of hand orientation, and the form eliminates interference from fingers or hands during operation.
We also aimed to balance a sleek visual identity with long-term durability. Hioki Blue serves as a key accent colour for brand recognition, while yellow highlights the lock mechanism for clear visibility even in dark spaces. Our objective was to create a product customers can trust in every detail.”

Development Leader – Ikeda, SS Unit, R&D Division
“Our goal is to develop a slim clamp sensor that could measure in extremely narrow spaces where previous models could not be used. For real-vehicle applications, our team defined what ‘easy to operate’ truly means and refined the product through repeated testing across various vehicle types.
Beyond its compact form factor, we also improved measurement accuracy, repeatability, and reliability, achieving significant enhancements over previous models.”
