ALDAS-E Customer Testimonial: Verdagy Inc.
“Developing next-generation electrolyzers means understanding what is happening inside the stack at the cell level — not just reading aggregate performance numbers. Conventional testing methods give you a useful picture, but they cannot separate what the anode is doing from what the cathode is doing, or isolate how resistance varies across individual cells at different operating conditions. We needed that resolution, and we needed it at current levels representative of real industrial operation.
We used Hioki’s ALDAS-E to run operando Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy on our 100kW alkaline electrolyzer stack at up to 4,800 A — something that has never been done before at scale. Most measurement equipment isn’t designed to handle the signal conditions you encounter in a real stack, but Hioki’s ALDAS-E solved that: it handles the high DC current environment cleanly, and gives you cell-level impedance data while the stack is running.
That kind of resolution — seeing what each cell is doing independently, under real operating conditions — changes how we approach electrolyzer development. It means we can identify where performance is being lost, evaluate new materials and configurations with much greater precision, and ultimately move faster toward the cost targets that make green hydrogen viable at scale.
