Structural Change on Models 3256-50/51
and 3257-50/51 Digital HiTESTER
Dear Valued Customers:

Thank you very much for your continued patronage.

HIOKI has determined that the design structure of the measurement terminals in Models 3256-50/51 and 3257-50/51 falls exactly within the required limits of, but does not allow for even slight deviation from, the EN61010-1:2001 safety standards. As such, in order to enhance the safety characteristics of these instruments, the design of the measurement terminals has been revised according to the details indicated below.

1. How the Terminals have been Redesigned
To make it difficult to touch the metal tips sunken within the four measurement terminal openings:
  • the diameter of the openings has been decreased 0.3mm
  • the metal tips have been shorted 1.0mm.
2. Will the Measurement Results be Affected?
Because this is only a structural revision, measurement results will not be affected.
3. How To Identify Newly Designed Instruments
Because the changes are not distinguishable to the human eye, to differentiate between older models and newly designed units, on the units incorporating the revised design, the COM indication appearing above the COM terminal will include an additional vertical line leading to the COM terminal opening. The images below show the differences between older models of Model 3256-50 and the newly designed units. The same graphical design will be applied on Models 3256-51 and 3257-50/51.

4. Affected Instruments
  • The affected units were sold worldwide from November 2003, when the EN61010-1:2001 safety standard was enacted, to August 2006. HIOKI will voluntarily replace all affected Models 3256-50/51 and 3257-50/51 submitted to us for standard repair and calibration with new measurement terminal tips and a front panel incorporating the revised designs.
  • Customers using Model 3256-50/51 or Model 3257-50/51 bearing the serial number 031100000 and beyond and wishing to have their instrument(s) serviced should contact their local authorized HIOKI distributor for further information.
Thank you for your cooperation in this repair program.

Sincerely yours
