HIOKI Launches the CT6865 AC/DC CURRENT SENSOR
Meeting High-current Measurement Needs
Including “Mega-solar” Power Plants and Electric Vehicles
OVERVIEW More Details
(May 2011, Nagano, Japan) HIOKI E.E. CORPORATION is pleased to announce the launch of the CT6865 AC/DC CURRENT SENSOR.

Rapid increases in efficiency and size in the development of large-scale solar power (so-called “mega-solar”) plants, electric vehicles, and hybrid vehicles are causing a corresponding increase in the magnitude of the currents being measured. The CT6865 is a pass-through current sensor capable of measuring large AC and DC currents of up to 1,000 A at a high level of precision, making it ideal for use in fields such as these.

Other features that allow the CT6865 to be used in an extensive array of applications include a wide frequency band that can accommodate measurement targets ranging from DC signals to AC signals at the secondary and output terminals of inverters as well as a wide temperature range that ensures the device can withstand use in environments characterized by harsh temperature swings.

Additionally, the CT6865 can be used in combination with HIOKI’s 3390 POWER ANALYZER, a high-precision power meter, to measures large currents of up to 1,000 A at a maximum accuracy of ±0.16% rdg., a feat that would be impossible with a conventional direct-wired power meter.
Applications
  • Measurement of current flow at high-capacity, mega-solar power plants
  • Electric and hybrid vehicle development
  • Power measurement of grid-tied power conditioners, etc.
Advanced Features
  1. Measure currents of up to 1,000 A
The CT6865 can measure DC and AC currents of up to 1,000 A, surpassing conventional pass-through current sensors of the same type that are unable to measure currents of 500 A or higher. The CT6865’s ability to handle 1,000 A class currents makes it ideal for use with today’s increasingly large-scale, energy-saving technologies.
  2. Broad range of frequencies at a high level of precision
The CT6865’s broad measurement frequency band ranges from DC to 20 kHz, allowing it to be used to measure targets ranging from DC current flows at solar power plants to AC signals at the secondary and output terminals of power inverters.
Furthermore, the sensor offers a high level of precision. Basic measurement accuracy of ±0.05% rdg. ±0.01% f.s. makes it ideal for use in high-efficiency measurement of electric vehicle motors and other equipment.
  3. Pair with the 3390 POWER ANALYZER to measure large currents that cannot be measured with direct-wired instruments
Direct-wired power meters are not capable of measuring 1,000 A class currents. However, the CT6865 can measure such currents when used in combination with the 3390 POWER ANALYZER. Furthermore, the sensor’s maximum accuracy of ±0.16% rdg. allows it to make measurements at the same level of precision as is possible with direct-wired setups. The CT6865 stands ready to meet on-site measurement needs in the development of electric vehicles and other equipment.
