| PRODUCT CHANGES |
 |
- Probe tips are now covered by a removable cap to prevent short-circuits
Previous models posed a short-circuit hazard with the tips of their test leads when testing intersecting copper bars in distribution panels. The updated models prevent this type of short-circuit by adding sleeves for the tips of their probes to comply with the new standard, which requires that exposed metal on probe tips not exceed 4 mm in length. The sleeves can be removed for CAT I and CAT II measurement applications, giving the instruments the same measurement capabilities as previous models.
- Probe wires now feature two layers of insulation for improved safety
The previous models’ probe lines had a single layer of insulation, increasing the risk that an operator might experience an electric shock due to the unnoticed exposure of the metal conductor inside a worn cable. The new models use two differently colored layers of insulation. Wear of the first layer causes the differently colored second layer underneath to be revealed, warning the operator of the potential shock hazard and allowing safer operation than was possible with previous models.
