HIOKI Launches PEN RECORDERs PR8111 and PR8112
Small, Lightweight On-the-Spot Recording Instruments Ideal for the Field |

 |
| (March 2011, Nagano, Japan) HIOKI E.E. CORPORATION is pleased to announce the launch of the PEN RECORDER PR8111 (1-pen model) and PR8112 (2-pen model). The products’ smaller, more lightweight design is about half the size of previous models and approximately 2 kg lighter, yielding improved portability and convenience during use in outdoor applications. Further, the instruments’ ability to operate using any of three power sources lets them accommodate a variety of measuring environments. Finally, 17 measurement voltage ranges—more than were available on previous models—allows the new recorders to measure minute electrical signals at a high level of sensitivity. |

| Pen Recorders |
 |
Pen recorders are measuring instruments that record changes in electrical signals over extended periods of time on paper. Since HIOKI launched a pioneering MEMORY HiCORDER that recorded electrical signals as digital data in 1983, digital recorders have become the dominant instruments of their kind. Nonetheless, there continues to be robust demand for print output from pen recorders due to its suitability as a medium for long-term storage of recorded waveforms and its resistance to tampering by overwriting, an important consideration in applications where data is collected and submitted to government agencies. |

| PR8111/PR8112 Features |
 |
- Smaller, more lightweight design: just half the size of previous models
The PR8111 and PR8112 are approximately half the size of previous models and approximately 2 kg* lighter. Both instruments offer exceptional portability and convenience, a major feature since they are often used in an outdoor setting. *PR8111: 3.9 kg; PR8112: 4.4 kg
- Three power sources to accommodate a variety of measuring environments
Both instruments can operate using any of the following three power sources, making it easy to take measurements outdoors and in a variety of measuring environments:
- AC adapter
- Six D-size alkaline dry-cell batteries
- DC power source
- Extensive selection of voltage measurement ranges to enable a variety of measurements
The PR8111 and PR8112, which provide 17 ranges from ±1 mV to ±250 V, are distinguished by their ability to measure minute electrical signals at a higher level of sensitivity than is possible with digital recorders.

| Principle Applications |
 |
Pen recorders are used to record analog output signals from electronic equipment and electrode potentials measured in electrochemistry. They are also used in maintenance of galvanic protection systems. When current flows through a metal object such as a gas pipe that is buried underground or placed underwater, a series of chemical reactions can lead to the progressive corrosion of the metal. Pen recorders are used to take measurements in the maintenance of galvanic corrosion prevention systems, which vary the potential of metal in order to prevent such corrosion. |
